Case Study: Cyber Essentials Certification for an Engineering Client 

Project Overview:

The Engineering client has decades of experience in the high-tech manufacturing industry. They work with some of the biggest names around and help clients cut costs on manufacturing and find savings at other stages of the process. With a track record for excellence and investing in the latest machinery, they ensure clients achieve their goals. They sought Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus certification to access clients in the aviation and space-related industries and target larger organisations as well as improving their security and give them peace of mind.  

Objectives:

The primary objective was to enable them to meet the requirements for Cyber Essentials certification, allowing them to engage with large clients who mandate this certification. Additionally, the project aimed to improve system performance and reduce support tickets. 

Challenges:

The project faced several challenges, including dealing with outdated hardware, operating systems, and SQL servers. These legacy systems required substantial upgrades and remediation to meet the certification standards.  

Solutions Implemented:

To address the challenges, the project team implemented the following solutions: 

• Upgraded hardware and operating systems. 

• Updated SQL servers. 

• Implemented new configurations and policies to enhance security and performance. 

These were all completed in a stage approach allowing managing the cost and reducing the downtime 

Results:

The project resulted in significant improvements in system performance and a reduction in support tickets. Although the client initially did not anticipate these benefits, they were pleased with the outcomes. The project was lead by an experienced Cyber Analysis at CIS who understand the set up, which Team members who could assist and work with the Lead team to gather the information required whilst resolving the quick wins.
